Mixed Kids and Hair Woo’s
Are you someone that has a daughter or son with a different texture from you? Or do you know someone that struggles with taking care of their mixed children’s hair? If you are a parent with a mixed child, their hair is probably going to be a different texture than yours. It will have the hair of both genetic pools combined and that can be anywhere on the spectrum. Maybe their hair is more tightly curled/coiled than yours or maybe it’s more loosely curled/coiled. On either end, this can cause frustration when figuring out why the products you use on your hair aren’t working for your children.
Cleansing and conditioning: You will want to be sure the hair is properly cleansed and moisturized. Shampoo the hair no more than twice a week and use a leave-in conditioner after rinsing your conditioner and before applying styling products. Depending on the texture you can alternate a cleansing conditioner with your shampoo to help retain moisture. Remember curls need moisture-protein balance to prevent tangles, maintain shine, and keep maximum buoyancy.
Styling: You will also want to make sure the the styling products that you use are lightweight. Meaning, you do not need heavy oils and butters for most mixed children. This will lead to build-up and can create scalp issues after long use. Some protective styles that you can do are to braid or plait the hair as to prevent further tangles and seal in moisture.
